Tallinn's #1 roadside assistance

On-site jump-start assistance in Tallinn

Autoabi Tallinnas jump-starts cars with flat batteries on site across Tallinn and Harju County using a booster, without connecting to another car.

A booster starts the car without a voltage spike to its electronics or the need for another vehicle. Diesel, hybrid and electric cars need different approaches, so we ask about the drive type before dispatch.

Jump-start assistance and related work

We offer four ways to address a starting problem. From 2011 to 2025, Autoabi Tallinnas jump-started 24,386 cars: 7,216 diesels, 2,114 hybrids or electric cars and 15,056 petrol cars.

  • Technician charging a silver car's battery in a courtyard; an AGM battery uses a dedicated charging programme.

    On-site battery charging

We start the engine with a booster, then charge a battery that has passed the load test but is simply flat with a smart charger.

Our 10-amp smart chargers stop automatically when the battery is full, so you need not wait beside the van throughout charging.

  • Technician jump-starting a dark estate car in a snowy car park; a diesel gets two glow-plug preheat cycles before cranking.

    Cold-starting a diesel

A diesel needs more starting current than a petrol engine because of its higher compression and the power drawn by glow plugs before cranking.

We start diesels on exposed Harju County roads after they have stood outside overnight without a warm garage.

  • Technician checking the charging system of a burgundy car; alternators were checked on 566 cars in 2025.

    Alternator and charging-system check

We measure voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running to see whether an alternator fault drained the battery and could do so again.

We show you the reading before recommending battery replacement, alternator repair or simply charging.

  • Technician working beneath a light-blue electric car's bonnet while the driver presses Start on the technician's signal.

    Hybrid and electric car jump-starts

We boost the small 12-volt auxiliary battery that powers the car's computer and allows the high-voltage system to engage, without touching high-voltage cables.

For hybrids and electric cars, we connect only to the 12-volt auxiliary battery terminals, leaving the orange high-voltage cables untouched.

Jump-start prices

The dispatcher confirms the final price before dispatch, based on whether the car needs only a jump-start or also charging and an alternator check. Travel within Tallinn is included.

ServicePrice
Jump start on sitefrom €45
On-site battery charging with a smart chargerfrom €11.30
Alternator and charging system checkfrom €10
Travel from our base within Tallinnincluded in the price

The following factors affect the price the most:

  • Engine type: a diesel needs more starting current than a petrol engine.
  • Drive type: hybrids and electric cars are boosted only through their 12-volt auxiliary battery.
  • Battery condition: whether one jump-start will do or longer charging is needed.
  • Battery access: reaching an auxiliary battery beneath the boot floor takes longer than one in the engine bay.
  • An alternator check if the battery repeatedly goes flat soon after charging.

How long does a jump-start take?

A standard jump-start with a booster rated for 2,000 amps of peak current takes eight minutes: connect it to the battery terminals, start the engine and remove it promptly.

If a load test shows the battery is healthy but flat, we leave a smart charger connected for 20 minutes. This restores enough voltage for the car to drive away and continue charging the battery on the road.

An alternator and charging-system check takes 10 minutes with a multimeter. We compare the running voltage to the 14.2 V standard for a car. From 2011 to 2025, we charged 3,978 batteries with a smart charger and checked the alternator on 6,412 cars.

We respond to enquiries by phone within 10 minutes and reach cars within Tallinn in 28 minutes. We ask about the drive type before dispatch so we know where to find a hybrid or electric car's auxiliary battery. Including charging and checks, jump-start assistance took 14 minutes on site on average.

Hybrid jump-start near Keila Central Park

Customer: Meelis V., returning from holiday in a hybrid car. Location: near Keila Central Park, Keila; order no. 78,977.

1. Call and drive type: on an August weekday, the full hybrid would not start after three weeks in a private garage. The dispatcher noted that its 12-volt auxiliary battery was beneath the boot floor.

2. Booster start: the technician connected the booster with correct polarity only to the auxiliary battery. The hybrid system activated on the first attempt in eight minutes.

3. On-site charging: the orange high-voltage cables remained untouched while a smart charger charged the auxiliary battery at 10 amps for 20 minutes.

4. Check and handover: with the system running, charging voltage measured 14.2 V, the standard for a car.

Price: On-site jump-start 1 × €45.00 = €45.00; on-site smart charging 1 × €11.30 = €11.30; travel 16 km beyond Tallinn's boundary to Keila × €1.36 = €21.76. Total €78.06, including 24% VAT of €15.11.

Time: The technician reached the garage 42 minutes after the call ended. On site: eight minutes for the booster start and 20 for charging; 28 minutes in total (2025).

Result: The hybrid left the garage under its own power 70 minutes after the call ended.

Our Work Process

Three steps from a dead battery to a running engine.

  1. 1. Call and drive type

We ask whether your car is petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric so we can locate its auxiliary battery and bring enough starting current.

  2. 2. Jump-start with a booster

We connect the booster with correct polarity, start the engine and remove it promptly. No second car or jump leads are needed.

  3. 3. Check and hand over

We measure charging voltage after starting to check that the alternator is recharging the battery and the car will not stall again at the next stop. The work has a six-month written warranty; the terms come with your receipt.

How jump-starting differs by drive type

Petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars need different starting procedures, so we choose the equipment during the call.

Booster, Not Cables

Removing jump leads connected to another car can cause a voltage spike that damages sensitive electronics, such as the start-stop control unit. A booster is isolated, regulates voltage and needs no second vehicle.

Diesels need more starting current

A diesel needs more current than a petrol engine because of its higher compression ratio and the glow plugs drawing power before cranking.

Hybrid and electric car auxiliary batteries

Hybrid and electric cars are boosted through their small 12-volt auxiliary battery, whose capacity is much lower than a conventional car battery. The orange high-voltage cables are never part of the jump-start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Do You Use a Booster Instead of Cables?

Removing jump leads from another car can cause a voltage spike that harms sensitive electronics. Our isolated, regulated booster avoids placing that load on either vehicle.

Can a jump-start damage my car's electronics?

No. The booster regulates its output voltage and automatically cuts power if the polarity is wrong, preventing a voltage spike reaching electronic modules.

How to Start a Hybrid or Electric Car?

We boost only the small 12-volt auxiliary battery that powers the computer and enables the high-voltage system. We never touch high-voltage cables.

How much does a jump-start cost?

On-site jump-start assistance starts at €45. Smart charging for a battery that needs longer charging adds €11.30.

How to Know if the Battery or Alternator is to Blame?

We measure voltage while the engine runs. A healthy alternator gives 14.2 V; a lower reading means the battery may go flat again while driving.

How long does a jump-start take?

A standard booster start takes eight minutes. If the battery needs charging, we leave the smart charger connected for another 20 minutes.

Does a Diesel Car Need More Starting Aid in Winter?

Yes. A diesel needs more current than a petrol engine, and the difference grows in cold weather.

Where do you offer jump-start assistance?

We serve Tallinn from Kristiine to Pirita and Harju County locations including Saue, Keila, Viimsi, Maardu and Rae Municipality. In winter, we also attend calls on exposed Harju County roads.
