Tallinn's #1 roadside assistance

Towing in Tallinn and Harju County

Autoabi Tallinnas recovers broken-down, accident-damaged or ditched vehicles across Tallinn and Harju County by flatbed or wheel-lift tow truck, taking them to a repair shop, vehicle inspection or home.

The vehicle determines the equipment. Four-wheel-drive and electric cars always go on a flatbed: towing them with wheels on the road can damage the drivetrain or activate regenerative braking.

Towing and recovery services

We handle towing calls in four ways. From 2011 to 2025, we attended 19,512: 11,268 car tows, 3,904 SUV or van tows, 1,873 post-accident recoveries, 1,646 ditch recoveries and 821 intercity transports.

  • Technician securing a dark blue car to a flatbed for an intercity journey; loose strap ends are tied down.

    Vehicle transport between towns

We take a car that has broken down far from home, or needs repair in another town, between towns on a flatbed.

Long-distance moves are planned in advance because the same flatbed also serves shorter Tallinn and Harju County calls that day.

  • Accident-damaged silver car secured to a flatbed with its undamaged end leading; a warning triangle stands on the road.

    Post-accident recovery

We remove accident-damaged vehicles that are no longer roadworthy or that police require to be cleared from the scene.

At the scene, we ask for the insurance claim number and coordinate the move with the insurer before loading.

  • White van on a tilting flatbed; loose cargo is checked before loading so it cannot shift in transit.

    Van and delivery vehicle towing

Vans and delivery vehicles are heavier and longer than cars, so moving them requires a longer flatbed and stronger securing straps.

Our flatbed carries straps rated to 2,000 kg, suitable even for a fully loaded van.

  • Flatbed winch recovering a vehicle from a ditch; we inspect the underbody and oil pan before it drives on.

    Winch recovery from a ditch

A flatbed winch draws a car from a ditch back onto firm ground without causing further underbody damage.

We attach the cable to the car's recovery eye, never the bumper or underbody, which cannot withstand the pulling force.

Towing prices

The dispatcher confirms the final price before dispatch based on vehicle type and towing distance. Travel within Tallinn is included.

ServicePrice
Car towing within Tallinnfrom €57
SUV or van towingfrom €65
Winch recovery from a ditchfrom €56
Vehicle transport between townsfrom €1.48/km
Travel from our base within Tallinnincluded in the price

The following factors affect the price the most:

  • Vehicle type: cars, SUVs and vans need different flatbed lengths and capacities.
  • Drive type: four-wheel-drive and electric cars need a flatbed; a conventional rear-wheel-drive car may use a wheel-lift tow truck.
  • Distance: intercity transport is priced by the kilometre rather than a flat service charge.
  • Scene complexity: coordinating with police and insurers can add time after an accident.
  • Ditch depth and ground softness: deeper ditches require a longer winch cable run.

How long does towing take?

Loading a car onto a flatbed and taking it to a repair shop takes 25 minutes. We push or winch it aboard, secure it at four wheel points and transport it to the destination.

Loading a four-wheel-drive or electric car takes 35 minutes. Its recovery-eye socket is behind a bumper cover, which must be removed and replaced.

Winch recovery from a ditch up to 40 cm deep takes 20 minutes. A deeper ditch takes 45 minutes because the cable needs a longer run and a second anchor point.

We respond to enquiries by phone within 10 minutes and reach cars within Tallinn in 28 minutes. After an accident, we coordinate with police and the insurer at the scene. Loading and securing a vehicle took 28 minutes on average from 2011 to 2025.

Ditch recovery near Viimsi alumine tulepaak

Customer: Rando H., a communications-company installation technician. Location: near Viimsi alumine tulepaak, Haabneeme; order no. 81,802.

1. Vehicle details: on a January weekday morning, a front-wheel-drive manual estate car slid into a 35 cm ditch on a snowy road. The dispatcher sent a flatbed to Viimsi.

2. Preparation: the technician cleared snow in front of the wheels, placed two traction mats beneath them and screwed the recovery eye into the socket behind the bumper cover.

3. The 15 m winch cable was attached to the recovery eye, not the bumper, and pulled the car onto firm road in 20 minutes.

4. Handover: the technician and driver inspected the body and all four wheels together, and the car drove away under its own power.

Price: Winch recovery from a ditch 1 × €56.00 = €56.00; travel 5 km beyond Tallinn's boundary to Viimsi × €1.36 = €6.80. Total €62.80, including 24% VAT of €12.15.

Time: The flatbed arrived 35 minutes after the call ended; recovery took 20 minutes (2026).

Result: One pull freed the car from the 35 cm ditch, without loading it onto the flatbed.

Our Work Process

Three steps from your call to the destination.

  1. 1. Confirm the vehicle type

We ask whether the vehicle is four-wheel-drive, electric or hybrid, and whether it has a manual or automatic gearbox. That determines whether a wheel-lift tow is possible or a flatbed is needed.

  2. 2. Load and secure

We push or winch the vehicle onto the flatbed and strap it at all four wheels, rather than under the body. For four-wheel-drive and electric cars, the winch connects to the recovery eye behind the bumper cover.

  3. 3. Transport and hand over

We take the vehicle to the agreed destination and inspect the body and wheels with you on unloading. On-site loading and securing have a six-month written warranty, with terms on the receipt.

Choosing the right recovery equipment

The drivetrain and condition of the vehicle determine whether a wheel-lift tow or flatbed is suitable.

Flatbeds for four-wheel-drive and electric cars

A flatbed lifts all four wheels clear so the drivetrain and electric motor do not turn during transport. Manufacturer guidance calls for four-wheel-drive and electric cars to be moved on a flatbed: towing on their wheels can overload the drivetrain or activate regenerative braking. We loaded 4,391 such cars from 2011 to 2025.

Wheel-lift towing for conventional cars

A wheel-lift truck raises one axle and can move a conventional petrol or diesel rear-wheel-drive car with its gearbox in neutral. It is quicker for a short tow within the city.

Winch recovery from ditches and soft ground

The flatbed winch pulls a car from a ditch, snowbank or soft verge onto firm ground. We attach the cable to the recovery eye, never the body or bumper.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a four-wheel drive vehicle be towed on wheels?

No. A four-wheel-drive car goes on a flatbed. Towing with wheels on the road turns the drivetrain while the engine and oil are cold, risking gearbox overheating.

How to Tow an Electric Car?

We load an electric car onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the road. Towing on its wheels could turn the motor, activate regenerative braking and load the electronics.

Where is the recovery eye?

A small plastic bumper cover hides the threaded socket for the recovery eye. We remove the cover and screw in the eye before attaching a winch cable or strap.

How much does towing cost?

Car towing within Tallinn starts at €57; SUV or van towing starts at €65. Intercity transport costs from €1.48 per kilometre. Across 821 such trips, cars travelled a total of 71,427 km on our flatbeds.

Do you coordinate accident recovery with insurers?

Yes. We ask for the insurance claim number at the scene and coordinate moving the accident-damaged car with the insurer.

How Deep a Ditch Do You Pull Vehicles Out of?

Standard winch recovery covers ditches up to 40 cm deep. In a deeper ditch, we use a longer cable run and a second anchor point.

Can you tow vans?

Yes. Commercial vans are heavier than cars, so we use stronger securing straps rated to 2,000 kg.

In which areas do you offer towing service?

Our flatbeds serve all of Tallinn and Harju County, including Viimsi, Maardu, Rae Municipality, Saue and Keila. We attend calls from Tallinn Ring Road and Peterburi Road; in 2025, we attended 1,736 towing callouts.
