Tallinn's #1 roadside assistance

Fuel delivery in Tallinn

Autoabi Tallinnas brings petrol or diesel in a can to a car with an empty tank on a Tallinn street, ring road or Harju County road. Fuel delivery is part of our fuel assistance service. It is for an empty tank, rather than diesel fuel that has gelled in the cold.

We carry petrol and diesel in separate colour-coded cans: green for petrol and black for diesel. Before dispatch, we choose the can based on the fuel type shown on the vehicle registration certificate, rather than relying on memory.

When Fuel Delivery is Needed

The tank ran empty in the middle of the road

The engine jerks, revs fluctuate and the car stops within seconds, despite the dashboard having shown 20 km of range moments earlier. The estimate uses fuel consumption over recent kilometres and can fall faster with a cold engine or on an uphill road.

The fuel gauge is inaccurate

If a car stops while the gauge shows a quarter tank, or a 50-litre tank showing empty takes only 35 litres at the pump, the fuel-level sensor may be faulty. After we deliver fuel, we recommend going straight to a filling station and asking a workshop to check the sensor.

The diesel car still won't start after refuelling

When a diesel car runs completely dry, its pump can draw air into the fuel lines. After fuel is added, the engine may crank without starting or start briefly and stop. The system needs bleeding, so we ask whether the diesel car stopped while driving or had already been parked with an empty tank.

Why an Empty Tank Damages the Fuel Pump

An electric fuel pump inside the tank is cooled and lubricated by the fuel it sends to the engine. Running with an empty tank can overheat it within minutes. The pump can also draw sediment and water from the tank bottom into the fuel filter. That is why you should not keep cranking a car with an empty tank.

A dry diesel tank creates another problem: the high-pressure pump and injectors work at 2,000 bar and rely on diesel for lubrication. Air in the lines prevents pressure building, while a dry pump wears. We add fuel before the first restart attempt and bleed a system that has drawn in air, instead of asking the driver to crank it repeatedly.

How Fuel Delivery Works

Confirm the fuel type

Tell us the car's registration number and read the fuel type from its registration certificate; the same model can be sold with petrol or diesel engines. We bring only the confirmed fuel, with a funnel suitable for a standard or capless filler.

Pour fuel safely at the roadside

On a main road, we place a warning triangle 100 metres behind the car and the technician wears a reflective vest. On city streets, we park the van behind the car with its beacon on. Before opening the can, the technician touches the car body to discharge static electricity, then pours through a funnel without starting the engine.

Start, check and receipt

After filling, we start the engine and watch it idle for five minutes to make sure fuel reaches it and it does not stall again. We charge for the delivered fuel at cost using the filling-station receipt, which shows exactly how many litres were supplied and at what price.

Roads out of Tallinn and distances between filling stations

Filling stations are farther apart on Peterburi Road, Pärnu Road and Paldiski Road than within Tallinn. For callouts outside the city, we bring two cans. If you request more during the call, we deliver 10 litres instead of five so you can reach a more distant station.

Fuel Delivery Price and Time

Fuel delivery starts at €40 plus fuel, including travel within Tallinn. Beyond the city boundary, travel costs €1.36 per kilometre in one direction. The on-site work takes 10 minutes: three for safety equipment, two to pour five litres and five to start and observe the engine. Bleeding a diesel fuel system that has run dry starts at €40 and takes 15 minutes with a hand pump or 25 with diagnostic equipment. From 2011 to 2025, we delivered 18,290 litres to 3,286 cars: five litres on 2,914 calls and 10 litres on 372.

Fuel delivery near Kallavere Keskkool

Customer: Tuuli S., whose small city car ran out of fuel. Location: near Kallavere Keskkool, Maardu; order no. 83,107.

1. Fuel confirmation: on an April weekday, the car stopped on Kallavere Street with an empty tank. The driver read 'petrol' from the registration certificate, and we sent two green cans in the van.

2. Roadside safety: the van stopped behind the car with its beacon on; setting out safety equipment took three minutes.

3. Before opening the can, the technician touched the car body to discharge static electricity, then poured five litres of petrol through a funnel in two minutes without starting the engine.

4. Start and check: the ignition was switched on and off three times before starting. The engine then started and idled for five minutes.

Price: Fuel delivery 1 × €40.00 = €40.00; travel 3 km beyond Tallinn's boundary to Maardu × €1.36 = €4.08; five litres of petrol charged separately at the filling-station receipt price. Total €44.08 plus fuel, including 24% VAT of €8.53.

Time: The technician reached the car 30 minutes after the call ended. On site: three minutes for safety equipment, two for pouring and five to start and observe the idling engine; 10 minutes in total (2026).

Result: Five litres gave the car a 50 km range, and the driver made it to a filling station under their own power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5 liters of fuel enough?

5 liters of fuel will take a car 50 kilometers with a fuel consumption of 10 liters per 100 kilometers, and this is enough to reach the nearest gas station in both Tallinn and Harju County. For a longer trip, you can pre-order 10 liters on the phone, which comes in two canisters.

Does Driving on an Empty Tank Damage the Catalytic Converter?

Yes. Just before the engine stops, misfires can send unburned fuel into the catalytic converter, where it ignites and overheats it. When the low-fuel light comes on, we recommend the nearest filling station rather than a cheaper one farther away.

Is fuel billed at the price of the gas station receipt?

Yes. You can pay for the service and delivered fuel by card on site or by bank transfer. We charge exactly the amount shown for the fuel on the filling-station receipt.

What to do if the car does not start even after adding fuel?

For a petrol car, we switch the ignition on and off three times to prime the fuel line before cranking. If it still will not start, we check the battery and fuel pump on site. For a diesel car, we bleed the fuel system.
