Car unlocking without a key in Tallinn

Autoabi Tallinnas opens locked car doors in Tallinn and Harju County without a key or damage to the glass, seals or paintwork. This car lockout service helps when a key is left on a seat, in the boot or in the ignition and the door locks itself.

Tell us the car's make, model and year. That lets the technician determine whether the inner door has a mechanical lock rod or an electric button and fit the correct tip to the reach tool before arriving.

When you need a car unlocked without a key

The key is locked inside

Some cars relock automatically if you unlock them by remote but do not open a door within 30 seconds. Others lock when the boot lid closes, even with the key inside. A key left on a seat or in the boot can therefore leave you locked out.

The key fob battery is flat

A fob with a flat battery will not unlock the door even when held next to it, and its indicator light will not flash when pressed, although the car battery may be fine. No tool is needed if you can find the mechanical emergency key hidden inside the smart key. Our dispatcher can guide you by phone before sending a technician.

The lock does not open even with the correct key

A key that spins freely or will not turn in the lock may mean the lock-rod clip inside the door has come loose or the cylinder is worn. We open the door using the interior lock button and show you where the fault lies so a workshop knows what to repair.

Why Air Wedges Won't Damage Your Door

The top of a steel car-door frame can flex by 6 mm and return to shape. An air wedge is a rubber cushion inflated by hand pump; it spreads pressure across its surface instead of concentrating it at one point like a metal wedge or screwdriver. This creates a 6 mm gap between frame and body without cracking the paint or bending the frame.

In newer cars, an electric actuator controls the lock rather than a mechanical rod linking the interior button to the outside cylinder. The actuator responds only when the button is pressed or the inner handle pulled, so the reach tool has to make precise contact. This takes longer: 4,325 of our 7,864 keyless openings involved electric central locking.

How we unlock a car without a key

Verify ownership

Before starting, we ask for a driving licence and vehicle registration certificate and compare the VIN on the certificate with the number visible at the base of the windscreen. If the documents are locked inside, we make that comparison immediately after opening the door, before handing over the car.

Air wedge and reach tool

We insert an uninflated air wedge at the top corner between the door frame and body, then pump it to create a 6 mm gap. Through it, a 55 cm fibreglass reach tool lifts the mechanical lock rod or presses the electric lock button without touching the glass or paintwork.

Check central locking and alarm

After opening the door, we lock and unlock the car three times with the key or remote and check that every door and the boot respond. If opening triggers the alarm, we silence it with the remote or a key in the ignition and explain when the remote needs resynchronising after a battery change.

Paid parking and narrow streets in central Tallinn

In paid parking zones around central Tallinn and the Old Town, parking time continues to run while you wait for your locked car to be opened. Parking enforcement cannot distinguish a lockout, so we recommend extending your parking by phone during the call. Our technician parks the van without blocking other cars on narrow streets.

Car unlocking price and time

Car unlocking without a key starts at €42, including travel within Tallinn. Beyond the city boundary, travel costs €1.36 per kilometre. An intact mechanical lock takes eight minutes to open; a newer electric central lock takes 15 minutes, with another five minutes to find a car in an underground car park. From 2011 to 2025, we unlocked 7,864 cars without keys, taking 12 minutes on site on average.

Unlocking a convertible near Lake Harku

Customer: Pille E., who had driven her convertible to swim at the lake. Location: near Lake Harku, Haabersti; order no. 84,765.

1. Ownership check: at 21:20 on a June weekday, the convertible locked with the key on the seat and the fabric roof closed. The owner showed the technician her driving licence.

2. Air wedge and lock button: because the window was frameless, the uninflated wedge went between the body and the front edge of the door. A hand pump opened a 6 mm gap.

3. A 55 cm fibreglass reach tool pressed the electric lock button without touching the glass or paintwork.

4. Immediately afterward, the 17-character VIN on the registration certificate in the glovebox matched the number beneath the windscreen.

5. Central locking and alarm check: the technician locked and unlocked the car three times with the remote and silenced the alarm it had triggered.

Price: Car unlocking 1 × €42.00 = €42.00; evening visit after 21:00 1 × €18.30 = €18.30; travel within Tallinn €0.00 (included). Total €60.30, including 24% VAT of €11.67.

Time: The technician reached the car 28 minutes after the call ended and opened the electric central lock in 15 minutes (2026).

Result: The convertible was open at 22:05, with its frameless glass and rubber seal undamaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does opening a car with frameless windows work differently?

Yes. On a coupé or convertible with frameless windows, we place the wedge between the body and the rear edge of the door. There is no window frame to take the pressure, and pushing against the glass could move it out of its track.

Will the alarm sound when you open the door?

Yes. An armed alarm may sound when a locked door is opened from inside without a remote signal. Unlocking by remote or inserting the key in the ignition stops it. The technician warns you beforehand so it does not startle anyone nearby.

Can you unlock leased and company cars?

Yes. The driver shows a driving licence and proof of permission to use the car: an employer's authorisation, a lease agreement or a registration certificate naming them as a user. For a company car, we invoice the company by bank transfer rather than the driver.

How much does it cost to open a car outside of Tallinn?

Car unlocking starts at €42. Outside Tallinn, travel adds €1.36 per kilometre: for example, €6.80 to Viimsi or €21.76 to Keila. The dispatcher quotes the final price before dispatch; an electric lock taking longer to open does not change it.
